At our office we treat many different cases of Achilles tendonitis. One of the most common causes of this condition is Football. With the end of the Super Bowl, it is important for the athletes to get the rest they deserve and need. For many athletes, constant stress and training will lead to the development of this condition.
Achilles tendonitis happens when repetitive stress is put on the tendon. It can be from an increase in exercise or another activity that your body has not adjusted to. Your Achilles tendon is the biggest tendon in your body. Its role is to connect your calf muscles to the heel bone and is used while walking, running and jumping. When the Achilles tendon is overused you may develop Achilles tendonitis.
Pain along the back of your leg and close to the heel, is a common symptom of Achilles tendonitis. Other symptoms include pain during physical activities and swelling along the back of the leg. You may notice pain is worse in the morning and after exercising.
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, call and set up an appointment at Foot & Ankle Associates. However, if you hear a “pop” in the back of your calf or heel it’s a clear sign to visit Dr. Marco Vargas. A “pop” is an indicator that you may have torn or ruptured your Achilles tendon.
Dr. Vargas and his team of podiatrists have experience in treating Achilles tendonitis, as well as, other foot and ankle injuries. Please do not wait to seek treatment if you are in pain. Remember pain in your feet or ankles is not normal!
