What Is Lunula Laser Therapy?
The Erchonia non-thermal Lunula Laser is an effective tool for treating onychomycosis (toenail fungus). Research proved the Lunula Laser significantly increased clear nails over a six-month period. The Lunula Laser targets the fungus and stimulates new clear nail growth. This patented red and violet visionary laser delivers an innovative, multifaceted approach of low-level laser therapy in the form of two different wavelengths to the affected area. Likened unto the agnostic effect of a drug, the Lunula uses photonic energy to modulate cellular reactions that target the fungus, without any adverse reactions to the nail bed, toe, or foot.
How Does Laser Therapy for Toenail Fungus Work & Feel?
When you come for once-a-month laser therapy, one of our podiatrists will aim a strong beam of light at your infected toenails. He or she will slowly sweep the light over your toenails in order to effectively kill off the fungus that hides deep in the nail bed. The light passes through your toenails without causing any damage to the nails or the skin around them. Each session takes about 10 to 15 minutes. We will recommend a few other products as well, to make the toenail fungus treatment completely effective.
Your nails will not get clear right away but clip off the old parts as they grow out. You will see a big difference within four to six months. Then, within a year, voilá! Look at those fungus-free feet!
Is Laser Therapy for Toenail Fungus Safe for Me?
Unlike some harsh medicines people take or apply for toenail fungus, laser therapy is completely safe and free from side effects. You may feel a warm or pin-prick sensation on your nail, but this goes away as soon as the laser therapy ends. Most people feel no pain at all.
If I Don't Treat My Toenail Fungus, What Might Happen?
If you don't treat the fungus and it spreads, you could experience the following:
- Green, yellow or white nails
- Spots on the nails
- Thick nails you cannot cut
- Nails lose their shine
- Nails get crumbly and weak
- Smelly nails
