Yes, your choice of footwear can hurt your feet. It’s important to buy shoes that are going to suit your specific foot type and activity. Keep in mind the following:
Are you purchasing shoes for a specific activity? Running, basketball and dancing shoes all require a different type of footwear. Before you buy shoes do a little research and figure out which ones are best.
Have you measured your feet lately? Measuring your feet is important to do before buying shoes. Brands of footwear can fit your feet differently, and so it’s crucial to measure your feet before buying. It is not uncommon for your feet to be different sizes. If that is the case you should buy shoes for the bigger foot.
Do your shoes provide support? You want to buy shoes that give support in the front and back. Wearing shoes without support can cause heel pain, and tendonitis. You also want to make sure your shoes are stiff in middle. However, it’s okay if shoes bend at the ball of the foot.
When was the last time you bought new shoes? Check the tread on your shoes and if you notice a lot of wear and tear, you should look for a new pair. Shoes – especially athletic ones – need to be replaced every 300-400 miles.
