Bunion pain can interfere with your daily activities and make even the most mundane task seem a lot harder. Even striding down the red carpet at the Oscars in high heels has the stars suffering when their shoes rub against those bony bumps. Standing around at your job can feel like hard work when bunions are causing your toes pain. Fortunately, there are some things you can do to relieve this pain at home without a lot of effort.
The first thing to do is to change your shoes. Tight-fitting shoes with no room for your toes, such as high heels, are probably the worst things you can wear if you have bunions. You want to try to put the least amount of pressure on the ball of your foot possible.
As for exercise, try switching from running to swimming or biking, and limit standing as much as you can. Other things you can do to help with pain include icing the bump on your toes. You can also try using an over-the-counter shoe insert or moleskin padding to relieve some of the pressure.
If the use of these at home remedies doesn’t help with the pain, it’s time to call Foot & Ankle Associates for a consultation. We can help you find relief with medications or a custom-made orthotic that can help address the problem. If all else fails to curb your pain, surgery is always an option.
