Skin cancer prevention is an important part of maintaining your lower limb health. Make sure you take steps to avoid damage from the sun. If you’ll be outside and have any part of your feet showing, use sunscreen for protection. Stay out of direct sunlight during the hottest parts of the day and avoid tanning of any kind.
Not all skin cancers are caused by sun damage, of course. Since much about cancer still isn’t understood, you may not be able to completely prevent cancerous lesions, but you can certainly keep them from spreading or causing much damage. Inspect your feet regularly for any unusual changes, including discolorations, new growths, unusual textures, and an increase in the size or thickness of any moles or other lesions.
If you notice any changes, don’t wait to see if they get worse. Contact Foot & Ankle Associates in Sugar Land, Houston, and Missouri City, TX, for an appointment or more information. Fill out our online contact form or call (888) 784-5335 to reach us.
