Ankle sprains happen a lot. You can walk out of your house and trip over a step or a toy left behind by your child. It’s easy to acquire an ankle injury, but you can help prevent one from happening.
An ankle sprain happens when your foot twists, turns or rolls beyond its normal motion. When this happens it causes your ligaments to stretch beyond their normal range. However, you can help prevent ankle sprains by the following:
- Always warm up before exercises. A quick stretch or jog in place will do the trick.
- Look for any tripping hazards while walking, running or if you are in a new space.
- Make sure your shoes fit and are appropriate for the type of physical activity you are involved.
