How To Prevent Foot Pain
By Foot & Ankle Associates – Sugar Land / Houston’s Favorite Podiatrist,
Dr. Marco Vargas
You can prevent foot pain by recognizing the need to take care of your feet. However, Dr. Marco Vargas has a few specifics:
- Inspect your feet every day. Look for changes in toenails, cracked or peeling skin and any abnormal growths. Foot inspections are really important if you are suffering from diabetes.
- Wash your feet daily and dry thoroughly. Bacteria breeds in moist environments and by drying your feet you can help eliminate that from happening. Also, don’t forget to dry in between your toes.

- Buy shoes that fit. The best time to purchase shoes is at the end of your day. Your feet swell throughout the day and will be at their biggest in the evening. Make sure to measure each foot before you buy a new pair of shoes. You also want to walk around in them before completing your purchase. If you experience pressure or rubbing when walking, you should consider a different pair. Remember that shoes do not need a breaking in period.
- Purchase activity or sport specific footwear. If you looking for an athletic shoe, go to a shoe store that focuses specifically on athletic footwear. You want to buy shoes that are going to support your foot and heel throughout physical activity.
