Orthotics can help correct faulty foot function. Wearing over-the-counter or custom-made orthotics is another way to treat any foot abnormalities you have without using surgical intervention. Orthotics can help treat plantar fasciitis, bursitis, tendinitis, diabetic foot ulcers and pain of the foot, ankle and heel. With custom-made orthotics, they are made specifically for your foot and can help with a variety of issues. There are two types of orthotics used for feet, which include:

Functional Orthotics: This type of orthotic controls abnormal motion and is made to be semi-rigid. It can treat foot pain because your foot is not using the normal motions. It can also treat shin splints and tendinitis.
Accommodative Orthotics: This type of orthotic provides more cushioning and support to your foot. It can treat diabetic foot ulcers, calluses and other foot conditions which may cause discomfort.
