While there are many causes for heel pain, plantar fasciitis is one of the most common. Plantar fasciitis refers an inflammation of the plantar fascia that results in pain. Plantar Fascia is the thick band of tissue that connects the calcaneus with the toe region. It is found on the bottom of the foot and is most commonly injured through overuse or stress.
Many athletes and people with flat feet will encounter heel pain at least once in their life time. In both cases, wearing adequate footwear is important to avoid pain. By properly aligning the foot via a shoe or custom orthotic, you can reduce the stress on the foot and eliminate improper foot mechanics.
In severe cases, surgery may be required for effective treatment. Contact one of our three locations throughout the greater Houston area. At our office, Dr. Vargas will prescribe the most effective treatment specifically for your lifestyle.
