When people hear the term “bunionette” they may assume that it is simply a smaller bunion, but this is only part of the story. A bunion is a condition that forms on the inside edge of the foot when the big toe is forced inward toward the second toe. This situation forces the bones to come out of alignment and a bony protrusion juts out at the joint.
A bunionette is actually the result of a similar situation, only on the other side of the foot. Instead of the big toe being forced in, the fifth toe is the one now crowding in toward the others. Once again, the bones come out of alignment and the result is a bony protrusion that this time juts out toward the outside of the foot.
Both conditions can be quite uncomfortable and result in unnecessary pain, particularly when they have pressure placed upon them or are constantly irritated by being rubbed by tight footwear. Fortunately, an array of conservative treatment methods can be used to effectively address either issue.
When you develop either of these annoying, painful foot conditions, Sugar Land’s Vargas Foot & Ankle Specialists is here to help.
